In order to ready about Day 2, it would help matters if you had the background, by reading what took place on Days 0, 1 and 2. Go there and then hurry back.
Day 3
Day three has rolled around quickly enough. The adjective “pouring” is often used in reference to heavy rainfall but now with the way the sun is blistering at 10:00 a.m., this has all of the intensity of “pouring sun”. It is as sweltering as it is humid. Fifteen minutes later, clad in all white to combat sun rays, I file out.
I am in undeniably better shape than I was yesterday and I am chipping away the kms. I am using the same route I did yesterday so familiarity is a bonus. 3 Kms down and I am still feeling good. I am in the Naalya estate where a reckless dog owner leaves his canine unit to roam the neighborhood roads. I decide that I cannot trust any Ugandan to have committed to training his/her dos to the recommended levels so they can mix freely with humans. My run reduces to a trot and eventually a complete stop. I change my route to evade them.
Running in the Naalya estate, I no longer find the endless twists and turns charming as they are doing a number on my energy levels. I pick up the speed to leave that runner’s jail early enough. Kyaliwajjala-Naalya road, I am mentally prepared so I glide along it gracefully till the bypass. A thought crosses my mind as I try to run uphill while paying attention to the large number of trailers on the road. It has just struck me now, doing this, that I am ultimately capable of immensely more. As long as it is looked at in the context of growth, reaching is an integral part for the human being to develop. My mind wanders to the business management concept of stretch goals which explained is the act of lofty goal setting. For instance, I want to have competed in an Iron Man triathlon by the time 2021 rolls around. That is a good example of a stretch goal, real nice and patently unrealistic. It occurs to me that goal setting need not be scientific or empirical, but spiritual. (In that spirit-pun unintentional-, I will be a dollar millionaire by 30). Subsequent to the setting of the stretch goal, one will then be required to deploy Parkinson’s Law, whereby; work expands to fill the available time. That giant goal has provided the benchmark and offers guidance on the measure of work required to attain it and therefore makes it attainment a lot more feasible if not inevitable.
These musings carry me home and as I approach I think that I started it doing it for Kenny and now I have turned into an inadvertent beneficiary. That’s the law of unintended consequences for you.
